School of fish from Presence

Immersive ocean learning

Nine minutes inside the reef.

A full lesson begins when the headset comes off.

Azul Vivo gives learners a direct sense of presence inside a marine environment that most will never encounter themselves.

The immersive chapter does not attempt to deliver an entire science lesson inside a headset. It creates the encounter: a learner observes coral, sharks, schools of fish, marine plants, open water and small forms of life from within the reef.

The educational programme then helps the group describe what they noticed, compare perspectives, ask questions and connect the experience to marine ecology, systems thinking, conservation and media literacy.

  • Approximately 9-minute immersive chapter
  • English, French and Spanish editions planned
  • VR equipment available as an option
  • Reduced educational and nonprofit licensing

Experience first. Inquiry follows.

A complete learning sequence

1

Prepare

A short introduction gives learners context and one question to carry into the experience.

2

Experience

Learners enter the immersive chapter individually or in a rotating group. They look, listen and form their own observations.

3

Investigate

The group compares what each person noticed and connects those observations to scientific, environmental and media-literacy questions.

The immersive chapter is brief. The inquiry it begins can continue through an entire lesson, workshop or unit.

Several areas of learning within one experience

Marine ecology

Observe habitat, animal behaviour, reef structure and biological diversity.

Systems thinking

Consider how water, shelter, food, coral, movement and species form a connected living system.

Ocean literacy

Develop a more direct relationship with environments that remain inaccessible to most learners.

Environmental responsibility

Establish emotional and observational context before introducing damage, protection or restoration.

Media literacy

Compare a framed documentary image with a 360° environment in which the viewer chooses where to look.

Observation and attention

Examine how different participants can experience the same environment and remember different details.

Curriculum-alignment documents may be developed with participating educators, schools, boards and institutional partners.

For institutions seeking funding

A programme designed to be presented clearly to funders

Schools, libraries, museums and nonprofit organizations may need internal approval, philanthropic support, sponsorship or external funding before acquiring an immersive learning programme. Azul Vivo can provide a structured funding-support package that explains the educational purpose, implementation plan, costs, expected reach and long-term use of the programme.

  • · Project description
  • · Educational rationale
  • · Target learners and learning context
  • · Programme objectives
  • · Implementation timeline
  • · Formal licensing quotation
  • · Hardware and software budget
  • · Staff-training requirements
  • · Technical requirements
  • · Accessibility considerations
  • · Maintenance and support plan
  • · Projected participant reach
  • · Evaluation framework
  • · Sustainability plan
  • · Images and presentation material
  • · Partnership letters where applicable

The funding-support package does not guarantee grant eligibility or financial support. It is designed to help an institution present a complete, implementation-ready project to its own administrators, funders, foundations, donors and partners.

Sample programme description for internal and funding discussions

Azul Vivo Education Access is a multilingual immersive-learning programme that places learners inside a documented marine environment through short-form VR or fulldome presentation. The programme combines an immersive chapter, educator resources, institutional presentation rights, technical implementation and optional equipment. It is designed to support ocean literacy, observation, systems thinking, environmental learning and access to cultural experiences that would otherwise remain geographically and economically inaccessible.

Seaflower — first place-based learning module

Sample institutional programme description

Presence is a place-based immersive learning programme filmed within the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve in San Andrés and Providencia. The programme connects 360° documentary observation with coral-reef ecology, biodiversity, protected-area management, climate resilience, Afro-Caribbean cultural heritage and community stewardship. Its short immersive chapter is supported by contextual and educational resources that allow schools, museums and nonprofit programmes to extend the experience into a facilitated lesson or public discussion.
